Meetings

Meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of alternating months unless otherwise specified.  The months are as follows:  January, March, May, July, September, and  November.

All meetings are held at 56 Holly St., New Bedford, MA at 6:30 p.m. unless otherwise specified
 
        There are two specific types or P.A.P.A. memberships, Active Members and Associate Members.  In order to be considered for either type of membership, one must complete the appropriate application and mail it, along with the application fee to  P.A.P.A. Mass, Lodge II, PO Box 51523, New Bedford, MA 02745.  At the Executive Board meeting immediately following the application's receipt, the Executive Board will examine the application in order to determine whether the applicant's character and integrity are best calculated to advance the interests, promote the objectives and carry out the purposes for which this Association was established.  After examination of the application, each applicant shall be voted upon and must be approved by two-thirds of the Executive Board.  Race, sex nor creed shall be a bar to membership herein.

     Active Memberships are open to all full-time paid law enforcement officers, active or pension-retired, who are of Portuguese descent or from Portuguese speaking countries.

        Members who are dismissed from their department, or leave for any purpose other than pension retirement, may at the discretion of the Association, forfeit their membership.

       Members who are laid off from their department will be granted a one-year grace period from the date of such lay-off. After said time, such membership, may at the discretion of the Association, be deemed forfeited

     Associate membership is open to persons of good moral character who are lawfully employed in a regular profession or business and whose associations are beyond reproach, They shall not be associated directly or indirectly, with any person whose reputation, character or occupation is questionable.

      Upon becoming a member, the Associate may receive items of property bearing the identification of this Association, which shall remain the property of the Association, and will be returned upon request of the association.

      Associate members shall not have a vote in the deliberations, nor shall they hold office unless otherwise stated in the bylaws.

    General Membership Information

         Any member who resigns from this Association can only be readmitted for membership upon payment in full of all back dues and approval of such membership by two-thirds vote of the Executive Board, plus any penalty that may be assessed by the Executive Board.

        Any member who resigns from this Association more than once is forever barred from being readmitted.

        Membership in "Good Standing” is hereby defined as a member who has paid all dues payable to the Association, attended at least half of all scheduled meetings and who has been a member for at least (30) days.

     
   Any initiation fee and/or annual dues shall be set by the Executive Board, of which the minimum amount is set by PAPA/USA.
